I am so excited to be in the midst of preparing for the Grand Opening of Oceanview Writers Retreat. I love my new home so much, I'm anxious to share it with writer friends. The idea is to provide fellow authors with a vacation from everything that keeps you from focusing on your writing while also offering you inspiration. In addition, this is a perfect location for sightseeing or simply setting up to write on the deck or in your room.
You'll be provided with a bedroom (private or shared options), a writing space, several areas to congregate, a fantastic view of Clode Sound, whale watching from the living room or deck (in season), and sight seeing or hiking excursions twice a week. You'll be provided with three meals, including picnics if you plan a hike or come on organized trips. You have access to laundry facilities or you can ask to have it done for you for a minimal charge. The house has two washrooms, one on each floor. Also available in Charlottetown: a general store, a hairdresser/spa, fishing spots, and I believe that special boat tours can be arranged.
You can arrive with your car by ferry, or you can be picked up from the Gander airport for an extra fee. Proof of vaccination for Covid-19 will be required for your safety and that of other people. Sorry, I make no apologies for this health safety requirement.
Below is an arial view of my section of Charlottetown some 40 years ago, before my house (or the neighbours') were built. That is the government wharf and salt ships arrive in the summer. You can also see otters, dolphins, and a variety of whales in the sound. You can also see the Caplin roll (the small fish that attract the whales to Clode Sound).
