Sharon is a thoughtful and accommodating host. There are many indications, both small and large, of her thoughtfulness – especially for writers. A number of desks where a writer can be alone, supplies of writing implements of different kinds, a stapler, a hole punch, paper, clipboards – all things you’d want at your own writing desk. Sharon’s a good and generous cook too! Tell her your needs and preferences in advance and she’ll accommodate. She took us on wonderful rides to see the sights – Terra Nova Park, Trinity (a place we especially wanted to return to after an earlier trip) and so on. I should add that the space is wonderfully supplied with books!

Thank you Sharon for your thoughtful hospitality. The hike thru Terra Nova [National Park] and puffins an whale watching in Bonavista was superb. Lovely meals and super view on your back deck.
Time sure flies! To think last Sunday we were still in NL and staying at your beautiful location & home. Thank you for your hospitality -- and your sister as well. You both were super-kind in taking Renee and I out to see parts of NL -- unbelievable scenery.
Thank you so very much!

This place was ideal for onset on writing and on life in the midst of a waning pandemic. The scenery was serene, both near the retreat and at the nearby Terra Nova National Park. The Trinity EcoTour excursion to see an iceberg was a treat. Plenty of opportunity here to explore, replenish, read, and write. Meals were delicious and diverse. In good company with Farley, Alistair, and Dougal.
Thanks, Sharon,

Sharon’s Oceanview Writers Retreat is a fine spot for a writer – lots of space and time for writing, contemplating or just being. I did not have a writing project in mind but I hugely enjoyed the lovely quiet and our visits to the many scenic spots Sharon took us: like Terra Nova [Park]’s Visitor Center, the Boardwalk [around Sandy Pond], some National Park conservation work sites, down to Trinity and, most especially, her guided tour of the little town of Charlottetown... even met the garulous guy building a dock (what tales he has to tell !) Most picturesque town, beautiful. Good meals, good conversation with an attentive host, visits to interesting locations, and a perfect space to write to your heart’s content.

I was in desperate need of a time away to recover from an illness and to finish the last chapter of my book. I didn’t want to go to the west coast, my usual place to escape to write in solitude because I know too many people there now, like to ski in winter, and go out to restaurants. I decided if I would ever get the book done I needed to go where I’d never been, and there were no restaurants or friends to tempt men to go out. I put on a Google search for Writers Retreats in Newfoundland and up popped Sharon’s.
I signed up and so glad I did.
The weather was quite foggy, rainy, and generally crappy, thank God, exactly what I needed to stay put and write and not go on the excursions. Those will wait for another time when the book is done. I asked Sharon if there was anyone in the small town who did massage therapy and she immediately found Roxanne, who has a healing retreat in town. When I wasn’t writing I would go for long breaks and walks to get inspiration, and enjoyed meeting Roxanne, having a few treatments, but basically learning about indigenous herbs and aroma therapy potions for healing.
I am so glad I came to this beautiful part of the world. On the one nice day weather-wise Sharon took me to her sister’s home in Clarenville and we went on an adventure to purchase lobster from fisherman Gilbert and then to [the] wonderful village Trinity, and then back to Cathi’s house for a delicious lobster feed. A real highlight of my trip [is] I got to purchase some beautiful baby quilts and a full quilt from Cathi, an expert quilt maker.
Thank you for the opportunity to write, the lovely and yummy meals, and sharing sweet little village with me. Keep on top of those dandelions!
Gaye Gould :-)
